A Stylist's Guide to Summer Denim
Jeans, for most of us, are a wardrobe crutch – they go with everything, and if you happen to have found the perfect fit, they feel pretty good to put on too. But what about when things heat up? Sweltering in your favourite classic black slim legs doesn’t seem sensible. With everything from hand-painted jackets to brightly coloured shorts on offer, it would be amiss to wait until autumn to rediscover your wardrobe staple. We’ve asked our resident stylists to create a summer-worthy denim look.
MEN'S LOOK BY ALEX
A denim shirt is a signal of summer and this Floral Denim Military Shirt by Dsquared2 embodies the season. I’d layer it with a classic white t-shirt underneath, the Dolce&Gabanna Embroidered Logo T-Shirt is smart and stylish. To contrast with the colour of the shirt I’ve added the Polo Ralph Lauren Slim-Fit Chinos in green.
For accessories, the Raf Simons RS Micro Pacer Stan Sneakers and the Dior Homme Eyewear’s DIORFRACTION 3 Sunglasses have hints of blue which mirror those in the Dsquared2 shirt. To complete the look I'd add a BOSS Italian Leather Belt Bag.
WOMEN'S LOOK BY SARAH
To me, nothing says summer denim like double denim. Not in a bad Justin Timberlake & Britney circa 2001 way, in a cool Off-White meets MSGM way. The MSGM Frill Hem Denim Shorts are the perfect summer shorts, best worn with a casual t-shirt like the MM6 Maison Margiela Charity AIDS-Print Top (a top you can wear with anything, all summer long). Top it off with the Off-White Denim Cabana Jacket to contrast the black shorts and the double denim goes almost undetected.
To finish it off I’ve paired the look with the MM6 Maison Margiela Safety Strap Platform Sneakers which are playful; perfect for any summer adventures you have planned. Add the Gucci Eyewear’s Rectangular Frame Sunglasses and the Burberry Leather Link Camera Bag to complete the look.
