When was the last time you played? Where you got stuck into some Lego, completed a level on a video game or just got out a deck of cards and had a really good game? It’s easy to not make time for play – after all its non-essential. Our to-do lists don’t read: do dishes, call mum back, cook dinner and… play Jenga. But, wouldn’t it be a glorious world if they did?
Comme Des Garcons saw the potential in play with it’s sub-label launched in 2002 which it self-describes as “a sign, a symbol, a feeling.” Their line is intended to encapsulate the mood and feeling of play and the designs are uniquely geared toward comfort and ease. The Filip Pagowski designed heart logo denotes a certain kind of fun; a notion of not taking things too seriously. The mixture of polka dots and oversized logos collide together to great a playful line, pieces a little different than those we wear to impress, or for practicalities sake. Sometimes it is important to add something a little more relaxed to your wardrobe (much like the act of adding Jenga to your to-do list).
This week we’ve had our favourite Comme Des Garcons play lines restocked bringing with them an injection of fun into our office. The heart logo has come to mean more than just another logo from just another brand. To wear something from this collection is to show you are part of the ‘play’ club – and in doing proving you are dedicated to having a bit more fun. While I concede that we may not always have time for play in our schedule, at least we can wear it.
