One House, Different Voices: The Moncler Genius Event

It’s Milan Fashion Week. Somehow, it’s already the third leg of the month that makes up fashion month; and last night puffer jackets lined Milan’s streets. Why? Because the Moncler Genius show opened last night. While we’re familiar with the characteristic duvet jackets by the brand some may not be aware of the concept they released last year; a collection of projects and collaborations that tap into the diversity of the contemporary consumer. So, what is Moncler Genius?

There are 8 different projects that form Moncler genius:

1 – is for pure essence
2 – is for pop trademark
3 – is for playful flair
4 – is for pragmatic femininity
5 – is for dress as habitat
6 – is for wearable geometry
7 – is for subcultural subtleness
8 – is for going viral

Each of the individual ethos are represented by a different design direction or collaboration:

1 – Designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli
2 – Named after the year Moncler began, this collection reinterprets classic designs in pop colours.
3 – This collection focuses on technical quality, taking its name from the town nearest where Moncler was founded
4 – Designed by Simone Rocha
5 – Designed by Craig Green
6 – Designed by 1017 ALYX 9SM
7 – Designed by Hiroshi Fujiwara
8 – Designed by Palm Angels

As well as the original eight projects being shown, a ninth was also unveiled: 0 – Moncler Richard Quinn

Last night we had insider access to what was an extraordinary event. Here, there was a Moncler for everyone, no matter your age or style: perfectly embodying the united goal of the Genius Project: One House, Different Voices. Palm Angels brought their signature virality and pop appeal and concocted gold duvet jackets with knitted beanies and t-shirts – Moncler clothing, but not for the alps. The Grenoble collection maintained its technical clothing to be worn on the slopes; although even this, of course, had an edge with its blue ‘tie-dye-esque’ prints and wide-brimmed hats. There were duvet ballgowns from Pierpaolo Piccioli and floral creations from Richard Quinn.

However, there was perhaps one, more eccentric collaboration than all of these: a line for dogs. The outerwear brand collaborated with Poldo Dog Couture to create puffer jackets for your beloved pets.

This marks a year since the ambitious Genius project began and last night was an explosion of creativity, ingenuity and fun all under the house of Moncler. With a star-studded guest list (Millie Bobbie Brown, Miguel Herrán and Olivia Palermo to name a few) we’re excited for these collections to be released. While we patiently wait to wear some of these items next season you can visit the Moncler Genius Building which will be open on the 24th of February to the general public.
