A Stylist's Guide To Denim
As we start to consider maybe not wearing quite so many layers this month; and get excited at the prospect of not wearing the same four jumpers on repeat any longer, the inevitable wardrobe shuffles begin. On the tail end of the spring clearouts, it's the staple items such as T-shirts and jeans that we realise need updating, and so the search begins for new, lighter outfit pieces- which, of course, we optimistically believe we'll be wearing with sunglasses and suncream in no time.
While that may not be the case just yet, not that we're admitting it to ourselves, spring is the perfect time to bring out the slightly lighter denim pieces and brighten up our wardrobes. From jackets and jeans to shorts and shirts, the age-old question rages on-dare you take on the daunting double?
To bring us into the spring, we decided to take a close look at the GIULIO denim collections for some unique outfit inspiration. Our resident stylist, Alex, has broken down his top picks into a handy edit.

"Presenting Off-White's denim take on paper bag trousers; the Slim Low Crotch Jeans. Featuring a slim leg and a low crotch, the trousers are slightly cropped, giving them just the right balance between fitted and unrestrictive. A few key details of this pair are the "BELT" printed D Ring Belt, which cinches in the waist, with excess length to hang down to one side, and the elasticated waistband, which gives them a super relaxed and comfortable fit. Personally, I think a really great look would be to create a casual, utilitarian style built around these. The Universal Key Shirt, featuring drawstring fastenings and ring pull details, offers up sleeves long enough to keep you warm enough to brave the first sandals of the year; The Oddsy Minimal Trekking Sandals. Overall, a smart-casual look suitable for a huge variety of occasions- just maybe not the beach quite yet"

"AMIRI needs no introduction when it comes to their denim. These Dust Indigo Stack Jeans are cut to a slim fit and feature the brand’s signature stacked detailing at the cuffs. The pale, dusty wash makes them easily styleable and compatible with a lot of the pieces you already own- the beauty of denim, of course, is that it's so versatile, regardless of tone, so investing in a pair of AMIRI's could never be a bad idea. Assuming a casual take on the trousers, the Stone Island 668E5 Sweatshirt, which features similar blue and beige tones, would be a really nice way to pull together a cohesive look. If you were looking to really make a statement, the Alexander McQueen Glow In The Dark Oversized Sneakers would be a perfect addition. They boast a fresh, bright white colourway in the daylight, but luminesce a bold, paint splatter finish as soon as the lights are dimmed."

"For a sleeker, more sophisticated look, I have turned to another denim heavyweight, that is none other than Saint Laurent. The Nightrider Jeans immediately caught my eye; cut to a skinny, mid-rise fit and made from a black, stretch-cotton, they feature narrow, gold, vertical stripes and slightly cropped legs. There's no question that these jeans have a lot to say, and it could be a little daunting if you're not used to wearing louder pieces, but if you keep the rest of your outfit simple and sharp, you can't go wrong. To keep focus drawn on the stripes, my personal picks would be the Sheer Shirt, also from Saint Laurent, and the Christian Louboutin Greggo Flat Oxford Shoes. If turning heads is what you're after, this is definitely the ensemble for you."

"Browsing the women's denim, I couldn't ignore the striking Bluff High-Waisted Classic Jeans from alexanderwang. A pair of high waisted, pegged leg jeans, they feature one of the brand’s signature prints, the diagonal all-over logo print, which has been emblazoned over a grey cotton denim. I have of course paired the jeans with their counterpart, the Hooded Logo Bomber. When styling multiple pieces with statement prints and patterns, I would recommend keeping it clean when it comes to footwear, and in this instance, perhaps the Giuseppe Zanotti Blabber Sneakers, finishing off a dramatic monotone look."

"Le Skinny De Jeanne from FRAME features a high rise, super skinny fit in dark blue denim, with a slightly faded wash on the thigh and a slit detail on the cuff. You can't go wrong with the classic jeans-and-a-nice-top combo, especially on date night, and it would be an oversight not to incorporate night-out attire into my top picks. The REDValentino Ruffles Detail Top features three quarter length sleeves to keep you warm out on the town, and to coordinate with its nude pink tones and tie the look together, I love the RED(V) Ballet Tie Sandals for an elegant look, ready and raring to go for a last-minute romantic rendezvous."

"The Nellie Crop Jeans from PAIGE are bursting with character. These are a cropped piece, a culotte fit that gets wider towards the bottom and comes to a hem with a turn-up detailing at the cuff. If you're wanting to add splashes of modern flare to your wardrobe, bright colours and less-fitted items are the way forward. Why not step out of your comfort zone and move away from the usual jean-silhouette you've become accustomed to? If you're feeling extra bold, the KIRIN Typo Jacquard Bomber Jacket, which features oversized, all-over multicoloured branding, would go perfectly with the bright wash of the denim. If you're feeling extra confident, the Mid Star Sneaker features plenty more bright colours and interesting textures, so you really can stand out from head to toe. No matter how extreme you take the colour blocking, this look is a guaranteed success every time; combining relaxed fit jeans and sneakers never fails to result in a timeless, casual style."
