Trendspotting: FW19 Shows Revisited

FW19 shows revisited blog post header
As SS20 gets underway the barely-there clothing is making us feel a little cold. September has announced its arrival and with it cooler mornings, dwindling daylight hours and having to get reacquainted with your cars heating system. There is a silver lining: all the wonderful trends we fawned over at NYFW in February are now relevant to our sartorial choices, so while autumn may be upon us, we can cast a positive spin on our outlook with some new outfit inspiration.

1. ATTENTION SEEKING SLEEVES

Big sleeves are stealing the show, and they have been for a while, but they don't seem to be coming back to earth any time soon. Balloon? Oversized? Flared? Whatever style you opt for big, billowing sleeves are a sure-fire way to keep you FW19 look on-trend.

This MSGM all-over print dress has the perfect chiffon Tudor sleeve and is certainly a statement. Pair it with toned down accessories for a dressed-up-casual look and switch in a pair of heels if you're heading out for an espresso martini.

2. IS THERE ANYTHING UNDERNEATH?

We found ourselves asking "are they wearing anything under that?" a lot at the FW19 shows. Sometimes you could make out a hint of a skirt peek-a-boo-ing from underneath an oversized jacket, and sometimes the top was just oversized enough to relinquish the need for adding any extra layers.

Opt for an unfitted blazer, mixing it with a casual Off-White top to dress it down and add Self-Portrait's lacey, but mini, shorts for that 'is there anything underneath?' look.

3. OVERSIZED IS THE NEW SEXY

Not that a skimpier design doesn't do the job, it does. However, at one time that felt like the only option. If skin cinching fabrics aren't your thing you can breathe a sigh of relief and give away your skinny jeans. Oversized garments and looser fits don't necessarily mean casual or unflattering though, the overriding look is still chic, and dare we say it, sexy.

Think silky wide-leg Off-White trousers, a simple McQ oversized jumper and an eternally elegant Isabel Marant Étoile coat on top. Mix fabrics to keep thing chic and always add gold jewellery to finish.
